We pray for the soul of the dead

Eiji Kusuhara, one of our founder members, sadly passed away 23 April 2010 at the age of 63 after a 5 year battle with cancer.  In 2005, while having chemotherapy in Japan, he received a copy of ‘The Face of Jizo’ and read it through in one go in bed. He was eager to take the part of Takezo. Ichiza would not have been established without his passion which motivated us all to form the company. We will never forget his powerful Takezo which was his final performance.

Hisashi Inoue, who wrote The Face of Jizo, died 9 April 2010 at the age of 75. On completing The Face of Jizo which is about Hiroshima, he wrote ‘In all likelihood my life will be over when I have finished writing about Hiroshima and Nagasaki’. The task has been left with us. We feel a big hollow in the theatre world.
